Sports Agent, All Pro Sports and Entertainment, Inc. (starting summer 2013)
“If I can’t play sports, the next best thing is to work in sports,” says Adam Bakow ’13.
A former high school football player sidelined by injury, Bakow decided to pursue a career on the business side of sport instead. He worked in marketing for the New England Patriots and in sports information at Eckerd College. Looking up the career ladder, however, he saw limited opportunities without an advanced degree. Bakow decided earning a JD would give him the most options.
At Northeastern, he lined up a co-op at All Pro Sports Entertainment, a Denver-based agency representing 30 NFL and NBA players.
“I love the variety,” he explains. “You do every kind of legal work imaginable: corporate work, tax law, trademark, labor and employment, as well as criminal work. Sports agency combines all of my business interests — legal, marketing and public relations — into one package.”
Adam’s team of first-year students conducted a survey of seven states and federal law on the educational standard of college and career readiness for public schools, for the Public Education Network.
Adam participated in factual investigations of labor grievances, including interviewing witnesses, preparing testimony and reviewing documents.
Adam researched various contract and labor law issues and drafted motions on a variety of civil legal issues for athletes.
Adam filed grievances with the National Football League Players Association, appealing fines levied by the NFL against players.
Adam worked with staff and outside counsel to establish a charitable foundation for a multiplatinum recording artist.
Adam worked to establish several 501(c)3 foundations for clients and also worked on judgment collection issues.
