The School of Law's commencement will take place in Northeastern's Matthews Arena on Friday, May 25, at 1:00 p.m. Jacqueline A. Berrien, chair of the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), will deliver the commencement address to the approximately 200 graduates.
Prior to chairing the the EEOC, Berrien served as associate director-counsel the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) for five and a half years. From 2001 to 2004, Berrien was a program officer in the Governance and Civil Society Unit of the Ford Foundation’s Peace and Social Justice Program, where she administered more than $13 million in grants to promote greater political participation by underrepresented groups and remove barriers to civic engagement. During her tenure with the Ford Foundation, Berrien also co-chaired the Funders’ Committee for Civic Participation, a philanthropic affinity group affiliated with the Council on Foundations. Before joining the Ford Foundation, Berrien practiced civil rights law for more than 15 years.
Professor James Hackney will deliver the faculty address. The student speeches will be delivered by Timothy Cronin '12 and Deena Sharuk '12.
Commencement tickets are available in the Office of Academic and Student Affairs (61 Cargill Hall).
