Can I arrange a meeting with an LLM admissions representative or sit in on a class?

Yes. We highly encourage prospective students to come visit the School of Law. Please email llminfo@northeastern.edu to arrange an informational meeting about admissions, co-op or to set-up a class visit. Our office is located in 302B Dockser Hall in the School of Law at 416 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115. We look forward to meeting you soon!

I am in my last year of law school. Can I still apply to your program?

Potentially. If you plan to earn your first professional law degree before the start of our LLM program (in late May for summer entry or late August for fall entry), then you can apply to our LLM program during your final year of law school/law studies. We would review your application documents (including your marks for the years of law school/law studies you have completed) and if you are admitted to the LLM program it would be provisionally/conditionally pending completion of your LLB or JD and the receipt of your final law school transcript with degree conferred.

Does Northeastern University School of Law have a spring start for the LLM programs?

No. Northeastern University School of Law is on the quarter system (the year is split up into fall, winter, spring and summer). We offer two start dates for our LLM programs: a summer start in late May and a fall start in late August.

Does your program have any admission prerequisites?

Yes. The LLM program at Northeastern University requires two prerequisites. 1) A first professional law degree (LLB, JD or equivalent) before the start of the LLM program (summer - late May or fall - late August) and 2) evidence of English proficiency sufficient enough to be successful in advanced legal studies.

Is an interview required?

Yes. As part of the application process, applicants are invited to partipate in an interview, either in-person or via the internet (Skype or FaceTime), with a representative from the LLM and International Programs office.

What questions will an LLM admissions representative ask during the admissions interview? Do I need to prepare anything in advance?

The LLM admissions interview is an opportunity for a Northeastern University School of Law LLM admissions representative to discuss the program with you, get to know you and ask questions related to your experience, academics, and application. The most common questions will be related to your experience in the field of law, background, professional goals, interest in the LLM program at Northeastern University as well as your ideas/interests for co-op quarter.

Is financial aid available for applicants to the LLM program?

Yes. Applicants who are US permanent residents of US citizens are eligible to apply for federal financial aid by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Northeastern's federal institution code is 002199. A paper version of the form can be requested through the Federal Student Financial Aid Information Center at (800) 433-3243.

All LLM applicants are considered for a partial LLM Scholarship. There is no additional application required and all applicants are considered at the time their application is reviewed by the LLM Admissions Committee. LLM Scholarships are given to the strongest candidates in the applicant pool. Scholarships are generally based on the academic and professional credentials of the applicant.
