Greetings from the Latinx Student Cultural Center (LSCC)!
The Latinx Center at Northeastern University is more than a resource center for our students; it is a home away from home. The LSCC empowers Latino/a leaders of tomorrow in an increasingly global environment through their academic, personal and professional development. The Center promotes interactions between NU students from diverse backgrounds to enhance their academic, cultural, and social experience.
The Center offers programming that focuses on leadership development, socio-cultural experience, alumni involvement, community outreach through civic engagement and academic support. From cooking classes, to salsa dancing, to academic and financial support, the LSCC offers programs and opportunities that add great value to the Northeastern experience. We invite all students to join us and be part of our growing diverse community of students. The consciousness building and fantastic friendships that are found here is a truly magnificent component of the NU experience. I hope you will take advantage of our center; its resources and its people.
The Latinx Student Cultural Center at NU…
Cultura! Familia! Comunidad! Orgullo!
Rosa Rodriguez Williams, MSW
In 1994, the Latino/a Committee, a group of NU faculty, administrators, staff, and students proposed a unique plan: a Center that they could call home. Their vision was to create a Center in which people could come together and share their academic struggles and achievements, as well as their culture.
This Center would also find a way to give back to their community. The vision of a Latino/a Center was a way to take a theory and to put it into practice. This theory centered around the idea of transforming the classroom experience into community related activities and services. The work of this group culminated in the creation of the Latino/a Student Cultural Center and its opening on October 2, 1997.
The Ground Breaking Ceremony took place on April 29, 1997. These are some of the many people who have been and continue to be great contributors to the development of the Latinx Student Cultural Center at Northeastern University.
