About the Movement
Hurricane Maria has left Puerto Rico in the dark with limited resources and in need of our help. Our little island is home to more American citizens than 21 states. Join us and a group of Puerto Rican students from 40+ universities in raising funds and awareness.
Just a couple of days ago we put together a GoFundMe page with a goal of $15,000, to raise for our home Puerto Rico in a drastic effort to do what we can from so far away. Now we have reached well over $90,000, a goal that we could only dream of, with the help of none other but Jimmy Fallon!
On Sunday, September 24, a subset of this movement met at the LSCC to represent their universities in the organization of donation drives, fundraisers, and t-shirt designs. To join this movement, feel free to reach out to Laura Rivera and firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will be collecting the following objects in the Latinx Student Cultural Center starting today:
Non-perishable / Canned Foods • Trash Bags • Toothbrushes • Toothpaste • Deodorant • Soap • Baby Wipes • Tampons • Pads • Baby formula • Pet Food • First-Aid Kits • Diapers • Toilet Paper • Batteries • Solar portable phone chargers • Lysol Wipes • Water Purifying Tablets • Flashlights • Clothing • Towels • Underwear • Blankets
This initiative began with college students across the U.S. who anxiously witnessed the wrath of Maria from the outside and felt helpless. We realized that through our networks at the different Universities we attend, we can have a great impact on the recovery efforts.
The proceeds from this GoFundme will go to “Unidos por Puerto Rico,” a public-private initiative started by the office of the First Lady Beatriz Isabel Roselló and a group of companies to help the victims of the storm. We are going to need all the help we can get.
Please support our cause to help Puerto Rico get back on its feet:
