Classroom Technology Support – FAQ

Where do I find help with classroom technology?

You can get assistance with classroom technology by contacting the ITS Service Desk at 617.373.4357 (xHELP) or by visiting the Help & Information Desk at Snell Library. If you are in a classroom and need immediate assistance, call 617.373.4357 (xHELP) and Press 1.

For information on how to operate the technology in specific classrooms, visit View the Classroom on the myNEU portal  and select the room of interest. You will see a panorama of the room and be able to click on a link to operating instructions specific for that room. Operating instructions also are posted in each technology-equipped classroom.

How can I schedule equipment/classrooms for special events?

See the Conference and Event Technology Support page.

How do I use the touchscreen monitors in classrooms?

Any classroom with an installed instructor computer is equipped with a touchscreen monitor. You can use this monitor to navigate or annotate presentations. Watch a video tutorial here.

My presentation has audio. Why don’t I hear it?

The volume is adjusted on the control panel with either a knob or up/down arrows. If you do not hear anything, check to see that the amplifier in the equipment rack is turned on. If you are using a computer, be sure the computer volume is enabled, not on mute.

Can I stop a projected image to write on the board behind the screen?

If your control panel has a mute button (also called display mute or image mute) you can turn off the projected image by pressing that button, turning on the image by pressing the button again.

How do I see closed captions?

Materials must have the closed caption feature for this function to work. The presence of closed captions is usually indicated on the material label. For assistance in turning on the captions, contact the ITS Service Desk at 617.373.4357 (xHELP) and press #1 for classroom assistance. For information on how you can add closed captions to either your Tegrity captured lectures or other materials, visit Academic Technology Services.

Is it possible to change the installed equipment configuration so I can use my own technology?

If you would like to alter the configuration in any classroom, contact the ITS Service Desk at 617.373.4357 (xHELP).¬† Be aware that every classroom has multiple users and by changing the configuration to meet your needs, you may be affecting your colleagues. By contacting ITS, trained technicians can work with you to ensure everyone’s needs are met.
