Academic Technology Services
Academic Technology Services (ATS) is responsible for providing and managing university-wide software, tools and services that support teaching and learning, along with customized solutions and options based on the need of individual colleges, departments or faculty. ATS provides consultation to help faculty understand the functionality and application of specific technologies, and promotes technology that supports teaching and learning. The group also provides strategic direction to academia and ITS by researching, testing and recommending new tools and technologies, and responds to and provides support to all academic technology issues and requests escalated through the Service Desk.
The Business Analysis team works on a variety of projects and initiatives encompassing all enterprise applications. Members maintain a clear understanding of relevant application functionality and functional area operational and business processes, policies and compliance requirements, in order to act as liaisons between functional users and development staff, translating functional requirements into technical specifications. They provide business process analysis and insight into best practice methodologies, and assist in developing functional area end user training and associated documentation.
The Business Operations group serves as a support mechanism for ITS. The group provides fiscal management for each internal business unit; develops and enforces consistent operational policy and procedures for daily business functions; enhances each business unit with the appropriate administrative support; and serves as the internal liaisons with central university business areas and external vendors for daily business operations. Business Operations also provides contract management, oversees enterprise application licensing for more than 200 software packages, oversees departmental physical space planning, and coordinates departmental recruitment services.
Customer Services is the Northeastern community’s primary point of reference with the world of ITS. Comprised of the InfoCommons, Digital Media Commons, Service Desk, Audio Visual Support, ResNet and other open-access university labs, Customer Services is dedicated to increasing the productivity and satisfaction of faculty, staff and students using information technology. The group’s mission is to provide an outstanding customer experience through efficient and effective responses to the university community’s technology questions and issues.
Enterprise Application Development
Enterprise Application Development (EAD) is responsible for the architecture, design, development and integration of services offered to various constituencies of the Northeastern community. These services include identity management and customized portal services for various areas of the university, student messaging and collaboration services, enterprise-wide development (web applications), integration development, quality assurance and release management, enterprise database administration, and enterprise reporting and business intelligence.
Office of Information Security
The Office of Information Security is the central university resource for advice, recommendations and actions necessary to protect and preserve information assets and privacy of the Northeastern community. The office enforces IT-related policies and practices, and coordinates the activities and resources of all departments within the university who share responsibility for protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of institutional data and data processing capabilities.
Network & Telecommunications Services
Network & Telecommunication Services (NTS) is tasked with delivering highly dependable, scalable core infrastructure services to the university. This includes network services, telephone facilities, internet services, cable television delivery and structured cabling, as well as audiovisual and classroom technology design. The group also provides technical consultation for the design and support of new services and the planning for technological growth and change, while minimizing disruption of services.
Project & Services Management
The Project & Services Management Office (PSMO) is responsible for the coordination and management of technology related resources to ensure the successful implementation of major ITS projects. The team works with university staff to define, manage and implement complex projects across the academic enterprise, including providing communication about and training for those offerings. The team is also responsible for facilitating the project prioritization process, which is used to align the ITS project portfolio with the strategic goals of the university.
Systems & Production Services
Systems and Production Services (SPS) is responsible for the design, management and delivery of highly available, reliable and flexible enterprise data center, server, storage and desktop infrastructure services for the Northeastern community. The team is also responsible for assuring a robust messaging and collaboration service for the university, along with a standardized website hosting service and high-performance computing system administration.
