There are specific orientation sessions planned by the International Student & Scholar Institute (ISSI) that are mandatory for all new international students. Please be sure to review the ISSI Orientation Schedule for your academic program for detailed information, including date, location and time, for the following mandatory sessions:
Immigration Clearance
All new international students are required by government regulations to complete Immigration Clearance. In order to have your documents processed properly, please bring your passport, I-94 card, and I-20 or DS-2019 to this session. If transferring from another school in the U.S., bring your I-20(s) or DS-2019(s) from the previous school(s).
Please note that you must complete an online Immigration Clearance Form before attending Immigration Clearance. Once you have completed the form you will receive an email confirmation that you have completed the process. Please print this email and bring it with you to Clearance, or bring a smartphone with you where you can display the email. If you fail to complete the form online or bring a confirmation print-out or email with you, then you will delay your ability to complete Immigration Clearance and thus be able to register for classes, adjust your class schedule, receive your Husky Card, etc. The link to complet the form online is:
SEVIS Sessions
The International Student & Scholar Institute (ISSI) sponsors this required information session for all new international students in "F-1" (student) or "J-1" (exchange visitor) nonimmigrant visa classifications, to ensure student compliance with U.S. immigration regulations, particularly as they relate to the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and other important federal policies/procedures.
Mandatory Co-op Employment Information Sessions
This session presents an essential overview of important immigration and employment regulations that govern international students who plan to apply for Curricular Practical Training (e.g., work authorization for a Co-op job) while in the U.S. Proper authorization in advance of employment is a crucial component toward ensuring compliance with SEVIS requirements. ISSI Staff will discuss U.S. government regulations and required immigration procedures that international students must complete prior to beginning any Co-op job. This session is required of all new international undergraduate students; graduate students whose programs include a Co-op requirement are welcome to attend.
