Spring, Summer and Fall 2014 Mandatory International Student Check-In and ISSI Activities Schedule

To help you best find where you need to go, please refer to a campus map of Northeastern University.

College of Professional Studies and Global Classroom - Spring 2014 International Student Check-In Information

As you begin your new program in April 2014 on an F-1 visa*, you must complete the ISSI’s mandatory International Student Check-In. It is very important to complete the Check-In, as it not only overviews basic F-1 visa regulations that you need to follow, but is also allows the University to verify your presence on campus to SEVIS. Please note that you can only complete this e-form after you have arrived in the United States! The deadline to complete Check-In is 12:00pm on Friday, April 11th, but don’t wait until the last minute - the sooner you finish your Check-In, the sooner you will be reported as an active student to SEVIS. Failure to complete the Check-In can result in having your ability to register for courses be restricted and it could lead to you losing your good standing on your F-1 visa. The International Student Check-In process is offered online and only takes about ten minutes to complete.

To begin the International Student Check-In process, you will need to have your passport with you, and you will need to know your current address in the Boston area – even if it is just a temporary address. Once you have that information ready, then click on the link below this paragraph to access International Student Check-In. After clicking the link, you will next be taken to a screen like shown the link. You will need to login with your myNEU username and password. If you have not yet set-up your myNEU account, you must do that first, then wait up to 24 hours before you will be able to access the online Check-In form.

Once you have accessed International Student Check-In, you will begin by verifying if you are in the Boston area, and confirming the type of visa that you have. If you affirm that you have an F-1 visa, you will read a short series of important statement on F-1 regulations, and will be asked to enter your current Boston area address. If you are unsure of your Zip Code, don’t worry – there is a link in the International Student Check-In that will help you find your Zip Code.

At the end of each visa regulation statement you will need to click a button to confirm that you read and understood the statement, before the next statement is shown.

Pay close attention to the visa regulations statements as you read them, because there will be a short quiz at the end! Once you finish the quiz, you will need to read and confirm a Statement of Compliance and click the Submit button at the bottom of the e-form to send it to the ISSI.

*If you have a non-F1 visa (such as an H1B) and have verified with an immigration lawyer that you can study in the US while on that visa, and you have no plans to switch to an F-1 visa, then you do not need to participate in International Student Check-In.
