Congratulations on your son or daughter’s acceptance to Northeastern University. As one of the top-ranked universities in the United States, Northeastern accepts exceptional students from around the globe and we are privileged to have your young student join our community.
Northeastern is truly a global university. More than 5000 international students, exchange visitors, and scholars study here each year—enriching intellectual life on our campus and advancing cross-cultural understanding among faculty, students and alumni. It is this vibrant and diverse community that your son or daughter is now joining.
Northeastern has developed a deep understanding of the unique challenges our international students face as they transition to their new environment. That understanding serves as the foundation for the programs, services, and caring support network we have in place to assure their well-being – whether personal, cultural, financial, academic, spiritual or health-related.
Living Learning Communities bring our first year students together in residential communities centered on common interests. Orientation week activities, complemented by over 12 weeks of programming, ease new students’ transition from their home cultures to life in the United States and at Northeastern. Expert support from the International Student and Scholar Institute (ISSI) provides information, guidance and assistance with immigration issues. And if a student becomes ill, injured or stressed while here at school, the onsite medical and behavioral health teams at University Health and Counseling Services work together to make sure each student gets the prompt health care and compassionate support they need.
We also understand that every parent has concerns about the safety of their children living far from home. You can take comfort in the fact that Reader’s Digest recently ranked Northeastern as the second-safest university campus in the United States. We are proud of our campus record for safety, of our close and supportive relationship with the surrounding community, and of the experienced and dedicated Public Safety Division that is available at any hour of the day or night should any student need assistance.
Northeastern University is globally-engaged, culturally-diverse, and a great place to call “home” by domestic and international students alike. And it is a place where you can be assured your son or daughter will be encouraged, guided, and celebrated as a valued member of a dynamic, connected community at one of the most culturally diverse and distinctive American universities.
