Northeastern University Chinese Student and Scholar Association's New Student Orientation

The Northeastern University Chinese Students and Scholars Association (NUCSSA) is an on-campus student group dedicated to the service of all Chinese students. The NUCSSA will help whomever is facing troubles with studies, basic living or with their social life.

This year, the NUCSSA gladly invites all Chinese students to 2013's first greet and meet: 2013 Spring ORIENTATION. The NUCSSA will introduce all new E-board members and all upcoming events for the following semester. Also, the group will present some tips for those who just came to Boston, such as housing, health insurance, NU's co-op program, etc. Hope to see you all this Friday!

Northeastern University Career Services Office's The Art of American Small Talk for International Students

You might think small talk is a waste of time, but nothing could be further from the truth. Learning the art of American small talk will build your confidence, help you bond with strangers and most of all, make them remember you.

By the end of the class, each student will be able to approach any social or networking setting with confidence. We will also talk about the American cultural style of: Resolving Disagreements (expressing concern in the workplace), and "Signpost Language" ((used in presentations to highlight a development or change in subject (e.g. "My talk is concerned with..." "First of all, I'll..." or "Let's look now at..."), and language used in “negotiation” conversations.

Presenter: Mike Miller, President of Culture Adapt. He has worked and lived as an expat in Suzhou, China, founded two start-ups, studied abroad in Hong Kong, and traveled to over 30 countries.
