Jonathan Katz, the AP correspondent who was the only full-time American journalist living in Haiti at the time of the January 2010 earthquake, has written a gripping first-person account of the experience. The book chronicles the terror of that day, the devastation visited on ordinary Haitians, and how the world reacted to Haiti, while Katz follows aid money to uncover truths about how good intentions go wrong and suggests what can be done to make aid “smarter.”

This was the second year of our Open Classroom called “America, Islam, and the Middle East,” co-taught by Rami Khouri and Denis Sullivan. The class was open to the entire Northeastern community: students, faculty, staff, and alumni. And, it was open to the greater Boston community. We welcomed your participation in the presentations and discussions about the various topics we covered this year. Welcome to the International Affairs Program website. International Affairs is housed within the College of Social Sciences & Humanities and a part of the School of Social Science, Urban Affairs and Public Policy.
The dynamic images displayed on the International Affairs website were all taken by International Affairs students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Our students travel to a variety of international destinations and take advantage of unique experiences both on campus and abroad.
In addition to coursework, we encourage International Affairs majors to spend time away from campus...either through co-op, study abroad, internatioanal internships, or Dialogue of Civilizations programs. Balancing all of these experiences with coursework is possible with planning!
