"Arab Countries in Transition: Gender Rights and Constitutional Reforms”, Beirut, 23-25 June 2014, organized by the Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World, Lebanese American University, in collaboration with The Women and Memory Forum – Egypt; Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Rule of Law Program MENA Region; and the Danish Center for Information on Gender, Equality, and Diversity (KVINFO) – Denmark. Prof. Moghadam's presentation provided a conceptual framework to explain and predict gendered outcomes of democratic transitions; analyzed the ongoing democratic transitions in Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia; and assessed the prospects for a women-friendly consolidation in the three countries.
"Development Day" Conference

Professor Moghadam took part in the annual "Development Day" conference at the Stockholm School of Economics, 16 June 2014, organized by Dr. Ina Ganguli. The theme was "Gender and Development: The Role of Female Leadership". Participants included Dr. Jeni Klugman, director of Gender and Development at the World Bank; Professor Rohini Pande, Harvard Kennedy School; Professor Shareen Joshi, Georgetown University, and Professor Martina Viarengo, the Graduate Institute of Geneva. Professor Moghadam's talk was on the role of women's political leadership in North Africa's democratization, with a focus on both civil society and political parties.
