Why are some G-apps at NEU services slightly different from similar services that are publicly provided by Google?

If necessary, you can add your @neu.edu address as a “Sent From” option so you can send messages to closed listservs to which you are subscribed. It is important to note that mail forwarding from @neu.edu to @husky.neu.edu addresses will end in December of 2011. It is advised that, when possible, you change your membership for the listserv to your new HuskyMail address.

myNEU Messaging (Retired email system)

The following information pertains to students who utilized myNEU Messaging service. This service was retired during the Fall of 2009 in favor of the HuskyMail service and only students prior to August of 2009 had access to this now-retired service.

What was transferred from myNEU messaging services to G-apps at NEU?
Messages from your myNEU mailbox and contacts from your personal address book were automatically migrated to your new HuskyMail account within a few hours of activation, with the following caveats:

  • Folders in your myNEU mailbox became labels in HuskyMail. Empty folders were not migrated.
  • Messages over 20MB were not migrated.
  • Flags on messages were not migrated.
  • All migrated mail contains a Migrated label.

Will my HuskyMail address be compatible with Northeastern listservs and mailing lists?
Yes. You should continue to receive all listserv and mailing list messages in your new HuskyMail account as long as you are subscribed from your @neu.edu or @husky.neu.edu address.

Closed listservs only allow list subscribers to send messages. You should subscribe to these listservs with your new @husky.neu.edu address and unsubscribe your @neu.edu address.

What happened to my myNEU mailbox?
Now that you are using HuskyMail, new mail will be sent to your new HuskyMail address.

Will my @neu.edu email address still work?
Yes. Your @neu.edu email address will automatically forward to your new @husky.neu.edu email account through December 2011.

Will the change to @husky.neu.edu email addresses alter my membership with websites off campus (e.g. Facebook)?
No. These external services do not authenticate against Northeastern servers. It is important to note, however, that services such as Facebook use your email address for important messages, notifications, and in the event of a forgotten password. Since your @neu.edu address will be retired in December of 2011, be sure to change your email address with these services or add your new @husky.neu.edu email address as an alternate contact.

What happened to the email forward address that I had placed in my myNEU Messaging account?
Those students who performed the self-migration service did not have the existing mail forwarding address on their myNEU mailbox transferred to HuskyMail. If you would like to forward your mail out of your HuskyMail mailbox, you should re-create your mail forward in HuskyMail.

Student accounts that were migrated by Information Technology Services (post October 1, 2009) had the existing email forward address in myNEU Messaging transferred to HuskyMail. As a result, any messages that were forwarding to your service of choice, will continue to be forwarded.

Can I revert back to my original myNEU mailbox?
No. Now that you are using the new HuskyMail service, you cannot switch back to myNEU mail.
