App-V Client Upgrade on NUnet Managed Windows Computers

Beginning Sunday, August 28, 2011, Information Technology Services will be upgrading the Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) client on NUnet managed Windows computers. App-V is one of the mechanisms used to deliver a large number of applications to faculty, staff, lab, and classroom computers.

The impact of this upgrade on individual users depends on the version of Windows and the App-V software currently on your NUnet-managed computer:

  • Most computers running Windows 7 or a recent version of the NUnet Windows XP image have the new version and will NOT be affected by this upgrade.
  • Most NUnet-managed Windows XP computers and some Windows 7 computers are using a version of the App-V software that will be upgraded when the next Windows patches are applied at shut down without you needing to do anything new - just a normal shut down and reboot.
  • Some NUnet-managed Windows XP computers running an older version of App -V will receive the update whenever the computer is turned on but NOT running any of the software delivered with this technology. If you try to open any application delivered with this technology, you will be prompted to reboot your computer. Before your reboot, please save any files you have open and close all applications.
