Northeastern’s SharePoint environment was recently upgraded from version 2007 to version 2010. SharePoint is an online collaborative workspace tool that allows NU faculty and staff to share documents, post announcements, manage team calendars and organize team information, among other things, in a secure environment.
SharePoint 2010 offers new features and improved efficiency. Some of the key enhancements include:
- New ribbon interface – aligned with the look and feel of other Microsoft applications and is designed to help you get work done faster with easy navigation;
- Browser compatibility – improved to work across multiple Internet browsers such as IE 7.0 and 8.0, Firefox and Safari;
- Expanded mobile access – optimized viewing and working with web pages using mobile devices;
- Calendaring improvements – the ability to display multiple SharePoint and Exchange calendars on a single page; drag and drop functionality within a calendar; and the ability to add events by clicking directly on a date.
SharePoint 2010 training classes are available for faculty and staff. Check the IS Training website for the schedule and to register for a class.
