Differences between Blackboard Learn and Blackboard Mobile Learn

Blackboard Mobile Learn is a new and evolving technology, and offers many convenient features right on your mobile device. It’s good to keep in mind that while the app does offer a native environment for accessing Blackboard course content on a mobile device, the underlying technology of whichever mobile device is being used may limit the Blackboard features that can be accessed from the app. Also, since this application is geared more toward student consumption, we recommend that all faculty content creation is done on a full browser on a computer.

The following features will not likely work as expected when accessed from the app and therefore should only be used when accessing from a full browser on a computer:

  • Adding new content to a course
  • Building tests, quizzes, and surveys
  • Submitting tests, quizzes, and surveys
  • Submitting assignments
  • Grading assignments
  • Adjusting Grade Center options
  • Participating in chat or synchronous sessions via Wimba Classroom
  • Viewing any Flash-based instructional content or movies

Mobile Learn is a WiFi-only application. It only operates over WiFi, with the exception of Sprint users who can use the app over the Sprint 3G/4G data network as well as over WiFi. WiFi includes the on-campus NUwave and NUwave-Guest networks as well as home and public WiFi (Libraries, coffee shops, etc.).

Get Started

To use Blackboard Mobile, start on the Blackboard Mobile Learn Download App page on the Blackboard website.

After you have installed the application, run it and search for “Northeastern” in the list of schools.

Blackboard Mobile Learn is a mobile application created and maintained by Blackboard. Northeastern will enable connectivity to the application, but has no control of the application’s offerings. The current release allows access to limited features and tools within Blackboard. This application is frequently updated (like any mobile application) and new functionality will be offered as Blackboard improves this service.

*Please note: The Mobile Learn application works over WiFi for all devices, and over the 3G/4G network for Sprint devices.

**Some 3rd party applications (add-ons) in Blackboard may not work on Blackboard Mobile.
