Microsoft Lync – Instant Messaging and More

Information Technology Services is pleased to announce that we will be offering the Microsoft Lync service to all faculty and staff on March 7, 2011. Microsoft Lync is the successor to our current Lotus Sametime offering.

Microsoft Lync is the latest unified communications solution from Microsoft that facilitates online collaboration through rich features such as Instant Messaging (IM), Presence, AV/Web Conferencing, Whiteboarding, Desktop Sharing, Application Sharing and File Transfers. Lync will be available to both Windows and Mac platforms.

screenshotUsers of Microsoft Lync and Office will quickly realize the communication efficiencies that this service will provide. Rich presence available in Microsoft Office and Outlook will allow users to view one another’s availability and status quickly, and initiate conversation through IM. Lync will allow users to facilitate online meetings, presentations, and white boarding with participants who may be geographically dispersed. All these features are available from a single intuitive interface.
