NUnet MacOS Faculty/Staff environment

Beginning early Spring, 2011, Information Technology Services will make available a managed faculty/staff desktop environment for use on Mac-based Northeastern University computers.

The new NUnet MacOS X environment enables users to log in using their NUnet credentials, and comes with MacOS X 10.6.4, Acrobat Professional 9.4, Office for Mac 2011, Flip for Mac (a popular Quicktime plug-in), Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and access to a host of Self Service software (look for a square icon with the colors green, blue, yellow and red). The Self Service option currently allows users to select and install packaged software applications from a wide range of choices.  The list currently includes Maple 13, Mathematica 7, Matlab 2010a, SPSS 18, components of the Adobe CS5 suite (including Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Illustrator, InDesign and Flash Pro), and a link to the faculty/staff VPN.

Note that migration to the NUnet MacOS X environment requires a complete reinstallation of the computer, and will result in the loss of any data that is not explicitly backed up.  It is strongly recommended that all user data be backed up prior to the NUnet MacOS X installation and restored once the new environment is installed and configured. For any questions about migrating to the NUnet MacOS X environment, please contact the IS Help Line at (617)373-4357 (xHELP).

The recommended standard configuration for Mac desktops and laptops for Office for Mac 2011 is an Intel processor, at least 2 GB of RAM, and at least 150 GB disk storage.

The NUnet managed MacOS environment has been installed in all IS-managed computer labs.  The new MacOS X lab environment includes MacOS X 10.6.4, Acrobat Professional 9.4, Office for Mac 2011, Flip for Mac, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Endnote X4, iWork Suite, Mathematica 7, Matlab 2010, Xcode 3.2.2 with iPhone tools, Microsoft Silverlight 3.0, SPSS 18, Adobe Creative Suite 5, iLife Suite, Adobe Camera RAW 6.2, and the Pharos print client.
