Traveling during the Summer? Security tips and helpful reminders

As many people travel during the summer months, Information Technology Services wanted to remind you about some safety precautions. SecureNU gives advice on how you can stay safe on public wireless networks.

Summer marks a transition for many – whether it is graduation, taking a vacation or moving from classes to co-op. Take this time to make sure you have strong passwords for accounts and your smartphone.

Faculty and staff members can remotely connect to campus resources in a secure manner utilizing the remote access service (also called a Virtual Private Network – VPN). Using the VPN ensures that all of the data sent and/or received is encrypted and secure. Additionally faculty and staff have access to their department’s “Q drive” (details) and many journals in the library database.

The VPN can be accessed by connecting to http://remote.neu.edu and inputting your NUnet credentials. Users must have the AnyConnect software installed on their machine for access outside of NUnet.
