Upcoming Storage and Shared Drive Improvements

In the coming months, Information Services will be moving Northeastern’s existing storage infrastructure to a new platform. This upgrade in technology brings a wide range of benefits to the University, including streamlined infrastructure management and improved performance and data storage to support our growing environment. Future improvements to this infrastructure will be easier as the University needs change, users will be able to perform self-restores and administrators will be able to more easily manage their shared drives. Moving to this new platform will help support the goals of Northeastern related to research, teaching, and learning.

The shared, or Q: drive, will be moved in phases as part of this effort, and we are working to ensure minimal impact to our shared drive users. Information Services will contact shared drive administrators and users 14 days prior to their scheduled drive migration with further instructions. The migration to the new platform will have no impact on shared drive users who are running Windows. Mac users connecting to a shared drive will need to make a simple change to remap their drives. Outages during the migration are expected to be brief and to occur during non peak use times, and will be communicated as the migrations approach.

For more information about the upcoming shared drive migration, please visit our migration FAQs page, or contact the IS Service Desk at x4357 or at help@neu.edu.
