Akiera is a 4th year Human Services (BS) senior with a concentration in Public Health and a minor in Global Social Entrepreneurship. She took Rebecca’s Strategic Philanthropy course in the Fall of 2014 and served as the Teaching Assistant for the course in the Fall of 2015. Taking Rebecca’s course encouraged Akiera to pursue her minor in Social Entrepreneurship, and join a Board of Directors. She is now on the board of Shattuck Partners- a non-profit that provides funding for recreational, therapeutic, and vocational programming for patients at Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain. Currently, Akiera is interning in the Social Impact Lab, researching the ethical implications of international service-learning. Having recently returned from doing research in Nairobi, Kenya, Akiera plans to pursue a career in sustainable, socially-conscious international development work.
