Climate for Change: The Green Team

copenhagen

In December, a group of 15 Northeastern students attended the fifteenth annual United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. The students got to observe more than 15,000 representatives from 192 countries working to negotiate a framework for reducing greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.

“It was so exciting to see how a U.N. conference works, and to see how energized the nongovernmental sector was in representing its causes,” says junior Gabriella Paiella, an international affairs and anthropology dual major.

Senior Dan Trindade, a political science and international affairs dual major with a minor in history and East Asian studies, says, “I find issues involving climate change, global-food policy, and the effect on the global water supply to be incredibly interesting, so to see how global democracy addressed these concerns was enlightening. Being there allowed me to take part in a piece of history.”
