Talk at 4:30 p.m. in Science Center D

Tea at 4:00 p.m. in the Math Lounge

Abstract:   Ideally, in a new applied area, one hopes to find both mathematical tools which illuminate the application and new purely mathematical challenges posed by the applied situation. But finding the right match is not always easy. I want to talk about three problems that arise in vision and the mathematical tools and problems they pose, about some blind alleys and where recent work is leading.
