Abstract:   The talk examines a proposed topological analog of the Bogomolov-Miyaoka-Yau inequality. We explore its relationship with the Montgomery-Yang problem on differentiable circle actions on the 5-sphere and to the H-cobordism group of 3-manifolds. All of these are related to algebraic orbifolds which have the same rational homology as projective space.
