Modular Representation theory (the wild world of characteristic p) |
Abstract: "Stuff happens" in characteric p, creating a more
challenging context for algebraic geometers and
representation theorists than the classical context
of working over the real or complex field. Algebraic
groups are the algebraic formulation of Lie groups,
and their representations are perhaps the most relevant
and least accessible.
Even the category of representations of Z/p x Z/p on
finite dimensional k-vector spaces is "wild". We
describe constructions in algebraic geometry which
which contribute to our understanding of extensions of
representations of algebraic groups as "elementary"
as the additive group G_a or as "simple" as the
special linear group SL_n.

Here are some directions to Northeastern University. Lake Hall can be best accessed from the entrance on the corner of Greenleaf Street and Leon Street. There is free parking available for people coming to the Colloquium at Northeastern's visitor parking (Rennaisance Garage). The entrance is from Columbus Avenue. If coming by car, you should park there and take the parking talon. After the lecture, you may pick up the payment coupon from Ivan Losev. |
