A mathematical application of (little) string theory |
Abstract: I will describe the relation between q-deformed conformal blocks of W-algebras and generating functions of K-theoretic instanton invariants for quiver gauge theories. The W-algebra and the corresponding quiver gauge theory are both associated with the same simply laced Lie algebra of ADE type. The relation can be stated and proven without recourse to physics. Yet, in discovering it, a six dimensional string theory ("the little string") played an important role. Time permitting, I will describe a second application of the little string theory, which yields a generalization of the (quantum) geometric Langlands correspondence for ADE groups. |
Here are some directions to Northeastern University. Lake Hall can be best accessed from the entrance on the corner of Greenleaf Street and Leon Street. There is free parking available for people coming to the Colloquium at Northeastern's visitor parking (Rennaisance Garage). The entrance is from Columbus Avenue. If coming by car, you should park there and take the parking talon. After the lecture, you may pick up the payment coupon from one of NEU colloquium organizers. |
