IGERT is the National Science Foundation's flagship interdisciplinary training program, educating U.S. Ph.D. scientists and engineers by building on their foundations of their disciplinary knowledge with interdisciplinary training. With its interdisciplinary focus, Northeastern University is home to two IGERT centers: Nanomedicine and Intelligent Diagnostics.

IGERT Nanomedicine Science and Technology is a new integrated doctoral education program in the emerging field of Nanomedicine, created with support from the National Science Foundation and the National Cancer Institute. The program aims to educate the next generation of scientists and the technologists with the requisite skills to address the scientific and engineering challenges, accompanied by the necessary business, ethical and global perspectives that will be needed in the rapidly emerging area of applying nanotechnology to human health.
