Roy Y. Liu is a managing director in the Technology Group of Hercules
Technology Growth Capital, Inc. (NYSE: HTGC). Roy has more than 20 years
of operating and finance experience with technology companies, and has
provided financing across a broad range of stages from early to later
stage and leverage buyout to industries, including semiconductor, data
communications and networking, and enterprise software. Roy has also
represented Hercules on the board of InfoLogix (acquired by Stanley Black
Before helping co-found Hercules in 2004, Roy was a Vice President at
GrandBanks Capital from 2002 to 2004, an early-stage, information
technology-focused venture capital firm, where he led the investment in
Colubris Networks (acquired by Hewlett Packard). In addition, Roy was a
founding principal of VantagePoint Structured Investments, a debt fund
affiliated with VantagePoint Venture Partners. In 1997, Roy co-founded
Imperial Bank's Emerging Growth Industries Boston office, where he
focused specifically on debt financing for venture-backed companies and
previously was head of the High-Lending-Group for State Street Bank &
Trust Co. Roy's first finance position was in the Acquisition Finance
Division of the Bank of Boston, providing financing for leveraged buyouts.
Roy's operational experience includes roles as the Vice President of
Finance and CFO to technology companies including toysmart.com, Inc. and
Microwave ByPass Systems, Inc. He began his career at IBM in research and
development. Roy holds a B.S. in electrical engineering and an M.B.A.
from the University of Michigan. Roy is currently a Mentor in
Northeastern University's IDEA start-up incubator.
