Thriving in a Global Community

Rationale:

The purpose of this session is to increase students understanding of the holistic nature of diversity, and will be provided with tools to appreciate diversity and thrive in a multi-cultural environment.

Description:

This session should include: an engaging dialogue about the growing importance of living and thriving in a global community. Students should learn about the many factors that comprise diversity, and how these characteristics play into the relevance and construction of global communities. By the end of the session, students should understand the importance of valuing others for their contributions, as well as understand their role in this diverse community.

Learning Outcomes:

• Students attending this seminar will be able to articulate what it means to live in a global community, by expressing an understanding of the importance of diversity.
• Students will be able to express the holistic nature of diversity, by engaging in a discussion of the various aspects it entails.
• The student will have a better understanding of race, ethnicity, disabilities, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender, and other topics that relate to diversity—and how these factors play into a global community.
