Facing Our Future Today Public Forum Series
“Why ‘Occupy’?”
When: Wednesday, November 2, 5-7 p.m.
Where: Northeastern University Cabral Center
About: Featuring Northeastern professors Jeff Juris and Denise Horn along with William Gamson of Boston College, “Why ‘Occupy’?” will address the current set of issues and actions inspired by Occupy Wall Street that has spread to more than 900 cities in 82 different countries. We will address what is driving this new social movement, what brought it about and what its future might be.
“Teach-in on the Economy”
When: Sunday, November 13, 9 a.m.
Where: Northeastern University’s Blackman Auditorium
About: Professors and students across NU will lead a day-long reflection on the economy: What is happening in the economy? How are people being affected by the Great Recession? What are the root causes of the recession and what can be done to end it?
“Perspectives on Global Diasporas: A Multinational Conversation”
When: November 17, 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Where: Northeastern University’s Raytheon Amphitheater
About: Participants will include Khachig Tololyan (Wesleyan University), Kim Butler (Rutgers), William Safran (University of Colorado) and Lok Siu (University of Texas, Austin).
“The Challenge of Homeland Security Today”
When: November 22, 4-6 p.m.
Where: 90 Snell Library
About: “The Challenge of Homeland Security Today,” will feature Stephen Flynn, Political Science Professor and Co-Director of Northeastern’s Kostas Institute; Law Professor Amos Guiora (University of Utah); and Peter Boynton, Co-Director of the Kostas Center and former Connecticut Commissioner for Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
