Studies indicate that a carefully planned start, often called onboarding, increases an individual's success. Onboarding includes far more than an overview of roles and responsibilities; it encompasses gaining knowledge about and becoming integrated into the department, the larger university, and the life of the entire community. In short, onboarding prepares and engages the new hire so that they can excel in their role and advance the university’s mission.
