The role of Human Resources Management (HRM) is to design, develop, and continually refine a comprehensive human resources management program that attracts, rewards, and retains high-quality faculty and staff to meet Northeastern University’s educational mission.
Human Resources Management encompasses the following five areas: benefits, compensation, talent management, human resources information systems, and training and development.
Our Benefits area administers a comprehensive and competitive employee benefits program for all full-time regular faculty and staff including medical plans, a dental plan, medical and dependent-care reimbursement accounts, retirement plans, life insurance benefits, disability programs, and tuition reimbursement. The group also administers all leaves of absence, develops communications programs to educate faculty and staff about our benefits, and ensures compliance with all federal, state, and IRS regulations.
Our Compensation area is responsible for the design, development, and administration of a competitive compensation program for all staff. This includes the development of salary ranges and administration of performance appraisal programs. The staff in Compensation also consults with department managers on job design related to reorganization and restructuring.
The Talent Management team focuses on attracting, onboarding, developing, retaining, and rewarding the best available talent to support the mission and goals of Northeastern University. The HR Consultants confer with department managers on a wide range of employment and employee matters including recruitment strategies, hiring practices, organizational changes, staff development, and performance management.
The Employment group is responsible for the recruitment of all office support, technical, service, crafts, and trades staff. Our Employment Representative also partners with a variety of workforce development agencies in the Boston area to prepare trainees for job readiness.
The HR Systems and Operations group is responsible for the Banner HR and PeopleAdmin applications, HR Operations, Payroll Operations, and the HRM Customer Service Center. Specifically, this group manages all HR transactions for faculty and staff related to hires, promotions, salary changes/adjustments, and terminations; provides customer support for the HRM organization via the HRM Customer Service Center; and provides payroll and tax services to all faculty, staff, and paid students.
This area provides management development and training programs that offer both Northeastern-specific and general professional development to all members of the University community. The unit also manages the orientation program for all new full-time faculty and staff and oversees management orientation for all new managers.
