Revised Form I-9

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) has issued a revised Form I-9 and is requiring all employers to use this revised form beginning on April 3, 2009. The University began using the new I-9 form on April 3, 2009 for all new hires and reverifications.

E-Verify

The University has recently become an E-Verifier employer in order to qualify for contracts and grants that require E-Verification. E-Verify is a web-based program that supplements the current I-9 employment eligibility verification process. It provides an automated link to the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration databases to help determine employment eligibility of new hires and the validity of their Social Security numbers.

There are several advantages to the program. Most importantly, this will qualify the University to pursue research grants and contracts with agencies and states that require E-Verify. It also extends the time after graduation from 12 to 29 months that international students are permitted to work in the United States. In addition, we will now have electronic verification of all new hires’ eligibility to work.

Flexible Summer Work Schedule and July 4th Holiday

During the summer of 2009, the Flexible Summer Work Schedule will run from June 15 through August 14, 2009. In observance of the July 4th holiday, the University will be closed Friday, July 3rd.
