Trailblazers
If you know that young adults can make the world a better place—this is your new home! Trailblazers is a community of open-minded, progressive students who are interested in exploring who they are, learning from each other, and celebrating diverse perspectives. Trailblazers take their passions and turn them into action! As a part of the Trailblazers community you will have the option to live in one of three dynamic tracks:
- Kaleidoscope (LGBTQ+Ally)
: Students who identify with, or who are allies of, the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, Queer & Questioning (LGBTQ) community will have a safe environment where they can thrive, educate, and celebrate the many diverse perspectives of the LGBTQ population. Students in the LGBTQ+ALLY community will explore their personal identity, educate the Northeastern community about LGBTQ issues, promote being an ALLY, and enjoy the diversity of the Northeastern community.
- UNITE (Unifying Northeastern Identities Through Education)
: Students of this LLC will unite to discover, inform, and applaud the racial/cultural differences and similarities of our LLC in order to create a more inclusive residential, campus, and global community. This LLC will allow students to explore their own heritage while engaging with others from diverse backgrounds to foster a greater cultural awareness and to enhance the diversity of the Northeastern community and beyond. Students will be challenged to see the world through the eyes of others, to break down barriers, and to make sincere attempts to change social injustices with their everyday actions.
- NU Action
: What makes you take action? Do you care about education reform? Urban poverty? Food politics? Violence? HIV/AIDS? World hunger? Students in this community will be challenged to not only understand the injustices locally and globally, but to also take responsibility to utilize their influence in impacting change. Students will identify their passions. We will help students take their passion and turn it into action by linking them with like-minded people. Students in this LLC will be encouraged to take part in service-learning, community service, or community activism. It’s not too late to change the world!
- EMBRACE (Educating Members for Better Racial Awareness & Cultural Enrichment): Within EMBRACE students will gain an in-depth knowledge of the global experiences of the people of African descent in Asia, Europe, Oceania, the Caribbean and the Americas. Students will explore the African Diaspora’s influence on society, culture, politics art, music and the world at large. Students will be encouraged to take a leadership role by sharing your experience with the broader Northeastern community through campus wide cultural activities. This LLC works in partnership with the J D. O’Bryant African American Institute and the African American Studies Department.
- Students will be encouraged to attend programs at the Social Justice Resource Center throughout the year to enhace their experience, as well as the cultural centers on campus. Students will also be encouraged to participate in Safe Zone and Intergroup Dialogue training.
