Application Process

To begin the housing process for the Fall 2016 semester, you must first find out your eligibility and apply.

Each student arrives at Northeastern with specific values, interests, and habits. Northeastern housing offers opportunities for learning, socializing and personal growth. Please note that limited numbers of each room type are available. We have economy, standard and enhanced rooms to meet your pricing needs. Room assignments are done on a rolling basis. Rooms will be assigned based on when your housing deposit was received and/or needs and housing preferences.

Are you in search of Spring 2016 Housing? Spring 2016 deposits are due by October 9th. You can simply log-on to myNEU and click on NUPAY, there you will enter the payment system. Next, select "Make a Payment" at the top of the screen and choose the terms to deposit for (“Undergraduate Spring 2016 Dorm Deposit”). Prior to depositing, please be aware of our cancellation schedule.

Please contact the Housing Office with any questions. Students receive all e-mail communication to their Husky e-mail account with the information that pertains to them.


INCOMING FIRST YEAR STUDENTS - Fall 2016

First-year students live in one of our popular Living Learning Communities (LLCs), themed housing environments that connect students of similar academic and personal interests. LLCs are a great way to enrich your academic experience outside the classroom and to form long-lasting bonds with other students who share the same values and enjoy the same activities. After your freshman year, you are guaranteed housing on campus.

FIRST YEAR STUDENTS

Spring 2016 Housing:

First year students who are living on campus during the Fall 2015 term do NOT need to apply for housing for Spring 2016.Your applications will be created for you and you will automatically be assigned to the same bedspace that you are in now. Should you wish to change your room assignment for the Spring, please see this website.

N.U.in students will be receiving information about Housing in October. You will be able to indicate your living preference through a preference form that will become available during the week of October 14th.  For now, you can check out this video to give you an idea about your Housing options. NUTerm Students

NUterm is Summer I for current first years. First years participating in NUterm are required to live on campus as it is a continuation of their first year. If you plan to participate in NUterm you may indicate so on the housing application. Once you register for classes for NUterm, you will automatically be enrolled in on-campus housing. The process for selecting housing for NUterm will begin in March 2016.

To apply for Fall 2016 Housing:

The deadline to apply for housing is May 2nd, 2016. To apply for housing, login through your myNEU Admitted Student Portal. Once there, click on Housing Online. Under the Apply for Housing section, click Apply for Housing 2016-2017! and fill out the application. We look forward to receiving your application!

Fall 2016 Information:

Incoming first year students are guaranteed housing and required to live on campus for their first two years. For their first year, the deposit process is handled through the Admissions Office. Once committed to Northeastern, first year students are asked to fill out the roommate compatibility form and select their top three Living Learning Communities. Students accepted into the Honors program are automatically placed and required to live in the Honors Living Learning Community. Housing/assignment related materials will be sent electronically to your Husky e-mail account. The first round of room assignments will be sent out in mid-June. Check regularly for updates throughout the summer. If you require a housing accommodation due to medical or accessibility needs, please fill out the Housing Accommodation/Medical Disclosure Form.

Current first year students heading into their second year in the Fall of 2016 are required to live on campus during the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters and, therefore, are not required to place housing deposits for those semesters. The only requirement is that you submit the housing application through your myNEU by the deadline (will be available in December). Any first year student who do not apply by the deadline will receive a higher lottery numbers as a result of not applying within the allotted time. This requirement to live on campus for your second year is not applicable if you accepted an out of state co-op or study abroad. If so, you must provide appropriate documentation to housing@neu.edu.

You will be asked to accept the terms and condition of the Residence Hall and License Agreement before being allowed to complete your housing application. This agreement commits you to abide by our residence hall policies as well as the cancellation deadlines. If you require a housing accommodation due to medical or accessibility needs, please fill out the Housing Accommodation/Medical Disclosure Form.

FiRST YEAR TRANSFER

Spring 2016 Housing:

First year transfer students who are living on campus during the Fall 2015 term do NOT need to apply for housing for Spring 2016.Your application will be created for you and will automatically be assigned to the same bedspace that you are in now. Should you wish to change your room assignment for the Spring, please see this website.

To apply for Fall 2016 Housing:

The deadline to apply for housing is May 2nd, 2016. To apply for housing, login through your myNEU Admitted Student Portal. Once there, click on Housing Online. Under the Apply for Housing section, click Apply for Housing 2016-2017! and fill out the application. We look forward to receiving your application!

Fall 2016 Information:

If you are admitted into Northeastern for the Fall 2016 as a first year transfer student and you are able to place a housing deposit, you are guaranteed housing for the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters. We have limited space for transfer students and it is first-come, first-served. Room assignments for first year transfer students are done on a rolling basis once you submit your housing deposit. Rooms will be assigned based on when your housing deposit was received and your age at time of arrival. We attempt to house transfer students with other students of a similar age. Housing for transfer students is never guaranteed during your time at Northeastern. If you require a housing accommodation due to medical or accessibility needs, please fill out the Housing Accommodation/Medical Disclosure Form.

For the Fall 2017, you will be able to participate in the lottery process in attempts to secure housing, outlined in the "Third Year + Students" section.


SECOND YEAR STUDENTS

Spring 2016 Housing:

Second year students are required to live on campus and do not need to deposit for the Spring 2016 semester. You have already been re-booked into your Fall 2015 assignment if you lived with us during the Fall term.

If you are going on coop outside of Boston or study abroad in Spring 2016, you will be permitted to cancel your housing without penalty; written verification from your coop/academic advisor is required. After we receive written verification from your coop/academic advisor, we will refund your deposit. Please e-mail housing@neu.edu to request to cancel with your NUID number, no later than December 5th.

Summer I and Summer II 2016:

If you are applying to live on campus this summer, please go to myNEU click the Self Service tab, then go to Housing Online to complete an application for each summer term you are interested in living on campus, then pay a $200 housing deposit for each completed application. The Summer I deposit deadline is March 1st and the Summer II deadline is May 1st, however, we will continue to accept deposits on a rolling basis until we reach capacity.

IMPORTANT:  If you do not live on campus for Fall 2016, your Summer II move-out date is August 23, 2016.  There will be no extensions granted to remain in Summer II housing past this date.

To apply for Fall 2016 Housing:

Here is a general outline of the process:

  • Mid-December - January 22nd: Applications for Summer 1 2016, Summer 2 2016, Fall 2016, and Spring 2016 goes live on your myNEU portal under Housing Online
  • January 22, 2016: Application Deadline for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 by 11:59PM EST
  • February 1, 2016: Selection Numbers and Wait List Numbers for Fall 2016 will be released via HuskyMail
  • February 15: $200 Deposit Deadline for students that receive Selection Numbers
  • February 22– March 4: Current Second Year and above Student Room Selection (if applicable)

Fall 2016 Process:

Students currently in their second year and heading into their third year in the Fall of 2016 are guaranteed housing for the 2016-2017 year, as long as they complete the necessary application prior to the designated deadline. In order to participate in the random lottery process you must submit an application through your myNEU portal prior to the deadline that will be released in December 2015. You will be asked to accept the terms and condition of the Residence Hall and License Agreement before being allowed to complete your housing application. This agreement commits you to abide by our residence hall policies as well as the cancellation deadlines. If you require a housing accommodation due to medical or accessibility needs, please fill out the Housing Accommodation/Medical Disclosure Form.

Any student that does not apply by the deadline will not be able to participate in the lottery process, will automatically receive a wait list number, and will not be guaranteed housing. If you are unsure as to whether or not you will be living on campus for the Fall 2016 or Spring 2017, Housing & Residential Life recommends that you apply anyway. Fall and Spring housing is limited, therefore, students will not be eligible to receive a lottery number if they do not apply by the designated deadline. If your plans change, you can cancel your Fall 2016 housing with no penalty by May 15, 2016 and your Spring 2017 housing by October 1, 2016.

Deposit Instructions: To deposit, log onto the myNEU Portal and click on NUPay. At the top of your screen, click on Make a Payment and select Undergraduate Fall 2015 Dorm Deposit.

You cannot be charged for a housing deposit. Deposits must be student generated and cannot be added to a bill.

THIRD YEAR + STUDENTS

Spring 2016 Housing:

Deposits for the Spring were due back in January when students applied for housing for select terms. On October 9th, we reached our capacity for the Spring term and moved to a Wait list. We are now accepting Wait list applications. To apply to be on the wait list, fill out the Wait List application through your Housing On-line portal in myNEU.

If you are going on coop outside of Boston or study abroad in Spring 2016, you will be permitted to cancel your housing without penalty; written verification from your coop/academic advisor is required. After we receive written verification from your coop/academic advisor, we will refund your deposit. Please e-mail housing@neu.edu to request to cancel with your NUID number, no later than December 5th.

If you are a current third year student or older, you are not guaranteed housing for the remainder of your time on campus. If you are interested in living on campus for the Fall 2016 semester you must submit an application through your myNEU portal prior to the deadline that will be released in December 2015. By submitted the application, you are not guaranteed housing. You will be asked to accept the terms and condition of the Residence Hall and License Agreement before being allowed to complete your housing application. This agreement commits you to abide by our residence hall policies as well as the cancellation deadlines. After submitting the application you will either receive a lottery number or a wait list number. If you are offered a lottery number you must secure your space by depositing by the deposit deadline below. If you wish to secure housing for the Spring 2017 semester, you can also make a deposit at this time. Please note, although it is not required, space will become limited for Spring 2017.  If you require a housing accommodation due to medical or accessibility needs, please fill out the Housing Accommodation/Medical Disclosure Form.

GRADUATE/LAW STUDENTS

To apply for Fall 2016 Housing:

 

Graduate Students who would like to apply for university housing for the Fall 2016 semester/quarter must submit a housing application by (TBD).  Please indicate on the application all the terms for which you wish to apply. You will be asked to accept the terms and condition of the Residence Hall and License Agreement before being allowed to complete your housing application. This agreement commits you to abide by our residence hall policies as well as the cancellation deadlines.

Assignment Process

After the application deadline, housing applications will be randomly selected through a computer-generated program. Students will either receive an offer for housing or be placed on a wait list for housing.

All students who applied will be notified of their application status during the week of (TBD). Students who receive an offer for housing will be required to submit non-refundable $200 housing deposits for the terms they requested.

Students who receive a wait list number will also be notified by e-mail at this time about their position on this list and will be provided with information about the process and next steps, as well as off-campus housing alternatives.

At the time you receive your assignment letter, you will be provided with details of your move-in date and time.

Graduate Students Currently Living On-Campus

Graduate students who lived on campus for the 2015-2016 semesters/quarters are guaranteed housing for the upcoming year, provided they complete the application, sign the license agreement and submit their housing deposit(s) prior to (TBD).
