Honors Community
The Honors Program at Northeastern reaches beyond the classroom. In conjunction with a number of programs and services on campus and in the metropolitan area, we open doors to exciting cultural events, chances for important contributions to the Boston community, and the opportunity to play a leadership role within the Honors Program. Honors students help the program in significant ways each year through their commitment to the program. Activities that are facilitated by student support include: Welcome Week, monthly Pizza and Profs, and the selection of the First Pages book by Honors Readers. In addition, students serve a recruiting role as Honors Ambassadors, team-teach Enhancing Honors as Honors Mentors, and work closely with faculty as Teaching Assistants in the First Year Inquiry Series.
One of our most important connections is with the Center for University and Residence Life. The Honors Program has Living Learning Communities in International Village for first-year students as well upper-class housing in West Village F and several floors in West Village C. Upper-class students work as honors residence assistants in all of this housing and work with Resident Directors to facilitate programming.
The Honors Program works closely each year with The Office of Community Service in the facilitation of the Honors Outreach Project – our program’s major volunteer activity. Community Service is also a setting where Honors students can connect with programs on campus such as the Campus Girl Scouts and in the larger Boston area, such as Rosie’s Place, a shelter for women. Students are given the chance to participate in episodic volunteer events lasting a day or making a long term commitment to a local organization providing services in the greater metropolitan area.
Regular programs, such as Welcome Week for our incoming first year students, Pizza and Profs, and our annual Honors Evening which showcases Junior/Senior Projects are spread throughout the academic year. In addition, subsidized tickets to Boston events, like the theatre and symphony are available each semester.
There are many ways to become more active in your undergraduate years here on campus. Northeastern is a great campus in a great town and we will work with you to help take advantage of many opportunities beyond the classroom.
