Charissa Threat studies twentieth century U.S. social and cultural history with a particular interest in race and gender issues. Her current book manuscript, “Re-imagining Civil Rights: The Campaign to Integrate the Army Nurses Corps, 1940-1966” is a civil rights story which focuses on gender and race in the U.S. as portrayed through the bid for the integration of African-American females and white males into the previously all white, all female Nursing Corps. She teaches course topics in Race, War, and Civil Rights; U.S. Woman’s History and U.S. History in the World; African-American History; and the History of Slavery in the U.S. Dr. Threat’s upcoming research will focus on the portrayal of race and gender in twentieth century popular cultural media such as the use of cartoons in print media.
