Mobile Optimization

Northeastern University is working towards making all websites mobile optimized. Below are a few recommendations for optimizing your website for mobile devices:

• Either design your website as a flexible layout or create a redirect to a mobile version of the full site
  • Flexible layouts adjust according to the user’s browser size
  • If redirecting the user to a mobile site, always include a link back to your full website
• Do not use Flash-heavy content —  Apple iOS devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad) do not support Flash
• Avoid using Java — many phones do not support Java; if they do, Java can increase load time
• Make sure navigation items, buttons, and links are large enough for finger touch
• Use alt-tags for all of your images
