Contracts and Consent

Departments and colleges are required to coordinate the completion of the Photographer/Videographer contract with freelancers through the university’s Office of the General Counsel. Please note: this contract includes the language “work for hire,” which stipulates that Northeastern University is the owner of all material.

If photos or videos are of specific or identifiable individuals, photo/video professionals must obtain the subject's permission to take and use the image. This can be accomplished by asking individuals to provide a broad scope of permission, in this photo consent form.

According to the Office of the General Counsel, photo consent forms must be obtained in private settings, including classrooms or areas not open to the public. If the event includes a large gathering and activity and consent forms are not possible, the photographer or videographer can post a sign at all entrances stating “Photographer In Area.” Photo consent forms are not required in public areas, including outdoors. However, please ask permission when possible.
