Learning Communities

The General Studies Program operates under a Learning Community system, a model which places students in cohorts based on the¬†major into which they would like to transfer as sophomores. For example, GSP students who wish to enter the D’Amore-McKim School of Business will travel with their fellow business track students through several of their required courses. This allows students to build a peer group with similar academic goals and interests, and to develop study groups around shared courses. Peer mentors (students who have already matriculated into majors) are also assigned to the various GENS sections based on similar majors and interests, and offer students another source of helpful guidance and advice.
