First-Year Seminars

GSP students take two 1-credit seminars over the course of their first year, entitled Transitioning, Learning & Connecting Seminar, Parts 1 & 2 (GENS1101 & 1102). These seminars are unique to the GSP and help students develop their college-level skills in such areas as critical thinking, time management, note-taking, test-taking, research, and group presentations. TLC Seminar are taught by the student’s GSP Academic Advisor. Each instructor is assisted by a Peer Mentor, who attends the seminar and is available to assist students both inside and outside of the classroom as they adjust to college life.  As both instructor and advisor, our staff members are able to familiarize themselves with students’ academic strengths and weaknesses, and help students achieve their highest academic potential.
