What is the GS Peer Tutoring Program?
Peer Tutoring in the General Studies Program (GSP) brings successful former GSP students, currently attending Northeastern, back to GSP to work as peer tutors. The GS Peer Tutoring Program employs only GSP alumni as peer tutors based on their academic expertise and their understanding of the GSP experience. The GS Peer Tutoring Program is nationally certified by the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA).
Mission Statement
The major goal of the Peer Tutoring Program in GS is to meet its students’ academic needs. Its focus is to provide academic support and a strong community base to its students. It is committed to promoting independent, active learning among the students it assists. It is also committed to improving and expanding its services through a collaborative effort by the GS administration, the program director, all the GS peer tutors, the entire GS faculty, and all the students it serves. It is expected that peer tutoring will have a direct and positive effect on improving GS students’ academic achievements, as well as promote a strong community among students, peer tutors, and faculty.
The GS Peer Tutoring Program, in conjunction with the Peer Tutoring Program @ NU, is committed to providing FREE academic assistance to all GS students in an academic environment in which personal growth and development is a priority. The program is dedicated to fostering long-term and independent learning among the GS students it serves. The success of this program is attributed to the highly trained, highly competent and highly motivated peer tutors and administrative staff and to the diligence and commitment to the GS students who participate.
