Entrance Requirements to Colleges

In order to transition into the major of their choice, students must meet all the prerequisite course and GPA requirements.  A full list of requirements for each major can be found at Changing Majors at Northeastern University.

All GSP students will work individually with their GSP advisors to begin the Change of Major process during the Spring semester.  Additionally each College/School maintains a website which contains program specific guidelines/deadlines for the change of major process (referred to by some Colleges as the Internal Transfer process.)

BCHS – Bouvé College of Health Sciences

CAMD – College of Arts, Media and Design

CCIS – College of Computer and Information Science

COE – College of Engineering

The change of major criteria for GSP students seeking to change majors into COE are GSP-specific:

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • Successful completion of the following engineering track courses with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher: MATH 1340/1, MATH 1342, CHEM1151/53, and PHYS1151/52/53 by the end of their first two semesters in GSP
  • Student must drop no more than one four-credit course over two semesters of full courseload work (16 credits per semester).

Students who do not meet the entry requirements for the College of Engineering for the Fall of their sophomore year by the end of their second semester in GSP, will be allowed to take courses in either/both Summer sessions at NU in order to meet the requirements. Please note that requirements for GSP students vary slightly (as shown above) from those listed on the COE site:

COS - College of Science

CSSH – College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH)

DMSB – D’Amore-McKim School of Business

The change of major criteria for GSP students seeking to change majors into DMSB are GSP-specific:

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • Successful completion of the following courses with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher: ENGW1111, ECON 1115 or 1116, BUSN 1101
  • MATH 1130 with a grade of B or higher, and/or MATH 1231 with a grade of C or higher
  • Students applying to the Bachelor of Science in International Business (BSIB) program need a minimum 3.0 GPA, and will be advised individually.

Students who do not make the entry requirements for the D’Amore-McKim School of Business by the end of their second semester in GSP, but who achieve a 2.5 GPA overall, may apply for provisional status for the following semester.
