Entrance Requirements to Colleges

In order to transition into the College or major of their choice, students must meet all the prerequisite course and GPA requirements. Some of the of the basic requirements, as well as requirements specific to students transitioning from the General Studies Program are listed below by College/School:

College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD)

  • Requirements are major specific; students will be advised individually.

D’Amore-McKim College of Business

The following requirements are achieved in two semesters of study in GSP:

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • Successful completion of the following courses with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher: ENGL 1111, ECON 1115 or 1116, BUSN 1101
  • MATH 1130 with a grade of B or higher, and/or MATH 1231 with a grade of C or higher
  • Students applying to the Bachelor of Science in International Business (BSIB) program need a minimum 3.0 GPA, and will be advised individually.

Students who do not make the entry requirements for the D’Amore-McKim School of Business by the end of their second semester in GSP, but who achieve a 2.5 GPA overall, may apply for provisional status for the following semester. College of Computer and Information Science (CCIS)

  • Requirements are major specific; students will be advised individually.

College of Engineering (COE)

Prior to consideration for entry into the College of Engineering students must meet the following criteria, specific to GSP students:

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • Successful completion of the following engineering track courses with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher: MATH 1340/1, MATH 1342, CHEM1151/53, and PHYS1151/52/53 by the end of their first two semesters in GSP
  • Student must drop no more than one four-credit course over two semesters of full courseload work (16 credits per semester).

Students who do not meet the entry requirements for the College of Engineering for the Fall of their sophomore year by the end of their second semester in GSP, will be allowed to take courses in either/both Summer sessions at NU in order to meet the requirements.

College of Science (COS)

  • Requirements are major specific; students will be advised individually.

Bouve College of Health Sciences (BOUVE)

  • Requirements are major specific; students will be advised individually.
  • Over the course of their 2 semesters with the GSP, students wishing to enter Bouve College of Health Sciences must earn an overall science GPA and cumulative GPA specific to their intended major (see below):
  • for Health Science, Nursing, and Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology the requirement is 3.0 cumulative and 3.0 science
  • for Pharmacy the requirement is 3.5 cumulative and 3.5 science
  • for Physical Therapy the requirement is 3.3 cumulative and 3.0 science
  • As part of the internal transfer process, GSP students meet with Bouve advisors, complete a Program of Study Petition, and submit a personal statement.
