Letter to our Congressional Delegation on DACA

I wanted to share with you a message that President Aoun sent to the Northeastern community about President Trump’s recent decision regarding DACA and Northeastern’s continued commitment to diversity and inclusion. Here at Northeastern we are seeing the impact of the President’s callous decision firsthand – more than forty DACA beneficiaries are students at Northeastern right now. As you can imagine they are confused, scared, and disenchanted by this news.

As an institution, we are doing everything we can to ensure that our students feel protected and welcome here on campus. That means ensuring that our students understand the specific implications of this decision as they become clearer, facilitating access to legal advice, counseling services, and community organizations, and fostering a campus community that values diversity and promotes inclusion.

But that is not enough. These students need swift action from Congress to ensure that they are able to remain in the only country they have ever known. We are asking that you immediately take up legislation, such as the DREAM Act, that would make DACA permanent. These young men and women do not have time to waste. They need your action now. Thank you for your continued advocacy for our students and our values.
