    July 25, 2012 - The Gordon Undergraduate Engineering Leadership Program (GUEL) held a two-day leadership “boot camp” for undergraduate engineering students. During the sessions, participants completed a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and explored engineering leadership in the context of personal leadership styles, power and influence, and situational leadership.

  • Strengthening University-Industry Partnerships

    July 11, 2012 - GEL Director Simon Pitts led a plenary session about strengthening university-industry partnerships as part of the 2012 NSF Engineering Research and Innovation Conference. The panel included Charles Buuck (Turner Construction Company), Lueny Morell (HP Laboratories), Robert Smith (Raytheon IDS), and Frank Tempesta (Textron Systems Corporation, retired). The conference drew approximately 1,200 attendees from academe, industry, and government.

  • Gordon Fellows Host First Annual Conference

    May 11, 2012 - Gordon Fellows and Candidates gathered for the inaugural Gordon Fellows Conference. Speakers included Beth Wilson, Principal Engineering Fellow at Raytheon IDS, and Lieutenant Colonel James Tuite, Professor of Military Science at Providence College. Cory Lloyd, Anthony Serino, and Matthew Dickman (Gordon Fellows 2008) led the event. Other presenters included Emily Anesta (Gordon Fellow 2011) and David Rozas (Gordon Fellow 2008). The event concluded with an evening outing in Boston. Thanks to all who attended!

  • Alex Showalter-Bucher Named COE Outstanding Teaching Assistant

    May 3, 2012 - Richard Alexander Showalter-Bucher was honored with the College of Engineering’s Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. Alex served as a TA for GEL’s Scientific Foundations of Engineering course taught by Dr. Stephen McKnight. In his nomination letter, GEL Director Simon Pitts described Alex’s “natural ability to relate to students and respond to their concerns with empathy, confidence, and professionalism.”
