Alain Charlois is the principal at Global Focus Consulting LLC, a consulting business providing various services related to strategic planning, business development, product planning and technology commercialization. His focus includes innovation-driven urban mobility, advanced powertrain, self-driving vehicles and the associated eco-system.

Previously Alain was the executive vice president, corporate and business development, of Fallbrook Technologies Inc., a startup company. The company markets a patented continuously variable planetary (CVP) transmission technology. He was brought into the company to build up the licensing business with a focus on technology commercialization and strategic investments. He is experienced working with investors, banks and capital sources in support of financing activities and liquidity events.

Prior to joining Fallbrook in 2010, Alain was the president of HEF USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of the HEF Group; a company specialized in tribology and surface treatment. He had full P&L responsibility for the business in the NAFTA region.

Before HEF, Alain enjoyed an outstanding career progression at TRW Automotive (ZF TRW), a company for which he worked for between 1992 and 2007. His last position was vice president of product planning for TRW chassis, occupant restraint and electronics business units. In this role he had global product planning and portfolio management responsibilities for the $11 billion active and passive safety product lines.

In 2004, Alain was appointed vice president of business development for the TRW Asia Pacific region based in Shanghai, China, a role he held until September 2006. In Asia he brought an intense focus on customer footprint, repositioning products and competitive positioning through joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions and strategic alliances.

Between 2000 and 2004 he served as TRW global director of product planning for the occupant restraint and automotive electronics product lines.

Alain joined TRW in 1992 as director of product planning for convenience electronics products based in Michigan, then he held various director positions in program management, sales and business development in the automotive electronics group prior to be promoted director of Product Planning for the occupant restraint and automotive electronics product lines.

Alain Charlois is a native of France and he served in the French Navy as Lieutenant Junior Grade. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nancy, France (ENSEM), and a Six Sigma Green Belt. He became a US citizen in 2000.
