Our International Initiatives

For international students studying on our campus and for students who wish to gain experience in other countries through study, “co-op,” research or service, Northeastern fosters deep connections with the world beyond Boston.

Northeastern’s global learning programs go well beyond standard foreign study programs. International experiences may apply toward a student's academic requirements and are often supported with financial aid.  The Office of International Study Programs offers undergraduates opportunities to study at 55 colleges and universities in 32 countries, as well as to participate in research-based programs in the Caribbean, Costa Rica, and Vietnam. Undergraduates can also take advantage of Northeastern’s unique Dialogue of Civilizations program, which offers five-week, faculty-led experiences in nearly 40 countries. The international office of our cooperative education program offers workplace positions in 45 countries. Northeastern students immerse themselves in the culture of their host country for these positions to gain the deeper understanding of the world that is necessary for success in the new global economy.

The International Student & Scholar Institute (ISSI) offers services that foster awareness between cultures and help international students make the most of their Northeastern experiences. ISSI sponsors more than 12 weeks of activities throughout the year to help international students orient themselves to campus life, including a two-month cultural festival, and a full range of cultural programs. Equally important, the Institute helps students navigate immigration regulations and procedures. ISSI also offers a full range of professional advice on topics ranging from tax concerns for nonresidents to employment options for international scholars. ISSI’s 12 full-time staff members and more than 125 student programmers and volunteers help to serve the needs of more than 4,000 international students and scholars from approximately 130 countries each year.

Northeastern enrolls students from more than 100 countries around the world.

Our students are active in more 225 campus clubs and organizations.

Over the past three years, 90 percent of our graduates were employed full time or enrolled in graduate school within one year after earning their degree.
