Making Consumers Safer

For decades, Louis and Madlyn Barnett along with their three children have been enthusiastic supporters of The Barnett Institute of Chemical and Biological Analysis. Their most recent gift ensures new drugs are safe for consumers and establishes the Center for Advanced Regulatory Analysis (CARA) within the Barnett Institute. The center will develop methods and instruments that pharmaceutical companies and government agencies can use to analyze and regulate drugs. Toward that end, it will also train scientists in the latest of these techniques.

“We wouldn’t be where we are without the Barnetts’ generous financial support,” said Professor Barry Karger, the Institute’s director.

The Barnett Institute is an internationally recognized research center where scientists develop and patent technology and apply it to biological and medical spheres. Within the Institute, scientists are discovering biomarkers for diseases such as cancer, psoriasis, and HIV.
