Dear Friends,

This is an unprecedented moment for Northeastern, one of trans­formational accomplishments, realized promises, and bold aspira­tions for the future. Our successes during the past year would not have been possible without our generous community of alumni, students, faculty and staff, parents, and friends, whose dedication and philanthropy secure our university’s distinctive character.

Support for Northeastern has never been stronger. In fiscal year 2011, the university achieved a fundraising milestone by raising the largest amount of money in its history. We welcomed more than two thousand first-time donors to our community, with five colleges receiving gifts of $1 million or more from new donors. Such success demonstrates that Northeastern’s shared vision for the future is reaching a broader audience than ever before.

Collectively, private philanthropy has created hundreds of scholarships and fellowships, allowing our students to pursue experiential-education opportunities, including global co-op and research. At the same time, philanthropy has supported our fac­ulty, advancing their work in critical research areas, such as health, security, and sustainability. Our donors have created academic chairs and professorships that help us recruit the best brainpower from around the world. Gifts have also enhanced our educational infrastructure: improving facilities and laboratories, and making possible the construction of new buildings.

On the pages that follow, we celebrate the donors who are pow­ering Northeastern’s remarkable momentum, and acknowledge the difference their leadership gifts and annual contributions are making for our institution and, more important, for the world.
