Destination

Located on the southeast coast of the Pacific Ocean, Sydney is truly an international hub and Australia’s premier city. In the year 2000, this vibrant city hosted the Summer Olympic games. On a natural harbor, Sydney is a stunningly beautiful city. Although most people picture the Opera House as its defining image, there are many attractions and opportunities for exotic experiences. Students may decide to take full advantage of its beaches, theaters, museums, art galleries, shopping concourses, restaurants, cafes, and pubs. Getting around Sydney is easy with the extensive public transportation system. There are also exciting adventures beyond the city limits. The mountain ranges and sandy white beaches provide great excursions from the city atmosphere.

Accommodations

Please remember that Northeastern University does not arrange accommodations for you while you are abroad – this is your responsibility. You should follow all of your host institution’s or housing provider’s procedures and deadlines for obtaining housing. Failure to do so may mean you are not able to arrange housing through the program.

  • Off-Campus Student Arranged: Students may select their own housing for this program.  Housing options can include apartment style housing, halls of residence (similar to dormitory-style accommodation), and studio apartments. Guaranteed accommodation is available for students at Urbanest Cleveland Street, for students who apply by the designated deadline each semester.  Students will receive the Urbanest booking form together with suggestions for alternative on-campus and off-campus accommodation options after receiving an offer letter from University of Sydney. Contracts start the week before Orientation Week and finish the week after the final exam period, meaning students don’t pay for several additional weeks they wouldn’t use. All students who live at Urbanest have access to facilities and services including: central location, fully furnished apartments, rent inclusive of all utilities and 15GB of internet/month included, social and study spaces, 24/7 security system and dedicated on-site team, gym & yoga room, indoor cinema and game room

Host University or Organization

Founded in 1850, the University of Sydney is Australia’s oldest university. The University has over 22,000 undergraduate students and 100 teaching departments. There are approximately 1,500 international students from every continent with the majority coming from Pacific-rim nations. The University is only a 15 minute bus ride from the downtown center, and set among the terrace houses – many of them occupied by Sydney students.
